Poster Session
Call for Posters! Share your work with a global community of change-makers
Are you involved in an interesting area of practice or research that can contribute to larger efforts to shift power, whether at the community level or within the philanthropy and international development sector more broadly? Why not bring a poster along to the Summit to share and discuss your ideas?
Why use a poster?
Posters are commonly used in the scientific and academic communities to communicate often complex pieces of work to a wide range of stakeholders at events. They are concise and structured but also often fun and colourful. Graphics, diagrams, photos and other imaginary are key to ensuring that text is kept to a minimum and that the posters are as engaging as they are informative. You can also use the poster again and publish it online to share it with an even wider audience. There are plenty of sites online (see a guide here in Spanish) which offer tips in how to create an engaging conference poster, or click here to check out some of the posters from the 2016 Global Summit on Community Philanthropy.
What do you need to do?
Space for posters at the Summit will be limited so we ask that you submit a brief description of your idea for a poster. Please send an email to Eshban Kwesiga at the Global Fund for Community Foundations – GFCF (eshban@globalfundcf.org) by 13 October which includes the following information:
Your name and position in your organization.
A brief description of your poster idea, and why you think Summit participants would be interested.
An indication of any advice or support you may need in developing, designing or producing your poster.
Finally, please let us know if you’ve already registered for the Summit.
This will allow us to gauge interest and to understand what support may be helpful. If your submission is chosen, we will offer you guidance as needed.
You will be responsible for designing the poster and for sending the final version in PDF format to the GFCF by 1 November. Your poster will then be printed for you in Bogotá, and a space will be provided at the Summit venue where all the posters will be displayed. You will have an opportunity to discuss your poster with others during a dedicated Poster Session!
Timings in a nutshell
13 October: Deadline for sending the idea for your poster to Eshban at the GFCF (as above).
1 November: Deadline for sending the final version of your poster in PDF format to the GFCF. This is to ensure that there is ample time to print the posters in Bogotá in advance of the Summit.
5 – 7 December: #ShiftThePower Global Summit in Bogotá, including the Poster Session.
Where can you get help and support?
Posters may be new to many and so we are keen to offer advice and support to help your idea capture the minds of the Summit audience. If your poster is selected, don’t hesitate to ask the GFCF for advice during the design process! With a quick Google search, you can also find plenty of advice online for how to make your poster stunning and engaging – there are also templates available.
